Iowans Serve on Regional Bahá’í Council
Submitted February 2024, updated March 2026
While no Iowa Bahá’ís served on the original Regional Baha’i Council serving the Central States, since the Regional Bahá’í Council for the Prairie States was formed in 2012 several Iowa Bahá’ís have served on that Body. Vicki Abel has served continuously from that date. Darajun Abel Amini served for a year from 2014-2015. Nina Scott served from 2012-2014. Avalan Wilson was elected in 2018 and served one year, but was elected again in 2022 and has served since then. Mark Scheffer was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2017, was elected in the next election, and has served since that date. As Marie Scheffer pointed out in the comment below, Nancy Braun was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2024 and continues to serve on our Regional Council.
Nancy Braun of Lone Tree, IA, also serves, having replaced Portia Lyle of Bellevue, NE, who had to resign when her husband, Ron, had a heart transplant. I think this was 2 years ago.
Thanks, Marie, for the update!
