“Small Steps…” in Ames, Iowa

An article appeared in the May/June 2024 THE AMERICAN BAHÁ’Í, headed with this quote from the Universal House of Justice: “Small Steps, if they are regular and rapid, add up to a great distance traveled.” The first two-page spread featured a neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. The pages below feature the neighborhood of Darajun & Adib Amini in Ames, Iowa. The grandparents referenced are, of course, Vicki & Bryce Abel. The introduction and these pages are reprinted here with permission from THE AMERICAN mike, all rights reserved.

Introduction: “All across the world, Bahá’ís are putting into practice the Teachings of Bahá’u’lláh to create strong spiritual communities. While the Faith gives us clear guidelines, what does it actually look like to “translate love into action?” Here are two narratives of this process. Young families in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and in Ames, Iowa, share stories of their creativity, love, and persistence.”

In every Dispensation, the light of Divine Guidance has been focused upon one central theme.… In this wondrous Revelation… the foundation of the Faith of God, and the distinguishing feature of His Law, is the consciousness of the oneness of mankind. — ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, cited in The Promised Day is Come
