International Pioneering and Travel Teaching
“They that have forsaken their country for the purpose of teaching Our Cause — these shall the Faithful Spirit strengthen through its power… Such a service is indeed the prince of all goodly deeds, and the ornament of every goodly act.” – Bahá’u’lláh, The Advent of Divine Justice, pp. 67-68
This map of Iowa Bahá’ís’ global outreach shows information collected as of March 26, 2024. The spreadsheet below is from March, 2023, so it doesn’t reflect all flags on the map. The map is easily updated. If you’ve experienced international travel teaching or pioneering after living and serving as a Bahá’í in Iowa, please send us the information and we’ll add it! You’ll find more detail, including additional cities in small countries, in the spreadsheet below.

I love looking at the world map, and seeing that so many Iowa Baha’is have spent years in different countries. It is almost as though once you try it, you keep going back for more. I know many people think it is a great sacrifice to leave home and live abroad, and to some extent it is. But to me, it is like sacrificing the money you would spend on a hot dog for the opportunity to live in service. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
