“The United States seem to be the favorite stamping grounds of every religious propagandist. Happily the bulk of these cranks gathers but a moderate following and what was heralded as the new scheme for the regeneration of the world peters out under the glare of some new fad. The latest religious sect is heralded from New York, and is known under the name of the Babists. The head of this sect is one Abbas Effendi, and like many of his kindred his teachings have had to come west for an airing. The sect is said to believe in God and the teachings of the Bible, but maintain that Abbas Effendi is a son of God.
