Davenport Morning Star: “The United States seem to be…”

This newspaper article was published on Tuesday, February 12th, 1901 in the Davenport Morning Star. These early newspaper articles are interesting glimpses into the past, but are not necessarily accurate sources of information of the Faith.

“The United States seem to be the favorite stamping grounds of every religious propagandist. Happily the bulk of these cranks gathers but a moderate following and what was heralded as the new scheme for the regeneration of the world peters out under the glare of some new fad. The latest religious sect is heralded from New York, and is known under the name of the Babists. The head of this sect is one Abbas Effendi, and like many of his kindred his teachings have had to come west for an airing. The sect is said to believe in God and the teachings of the Bible, but maintain that Abbas Effendi is a son of God.

In every Dispensation, the light of Divine Guidance has been focused upon one central theme.… In this wondrous Revelation… the foundation of the Faith of God, and the distinguishing feature of His Law, is the consciousness of the oneness of mankind. — ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, cited in The Promised Day is Come
