Bahá’í Week in Marshalltown, 1969

This invitation and program describes an ambitious effort, in May of 1969, to proclaim the Faith in Marshalltown through a series of lectures by Ruth Moffett or Dan Himes, “Computer Systems Analist, Deere & Company, Moline” [Illinois], and classes exploring topics within the overall theme “A New Birth of Spirit.” Classes addressed aspects of “Amazing New Keys to the Book of Revelation.” The week was proclaimed by then Mayor J. M. Parker.

Dear Neighbor:

The Bahá’ís Iowa join with me in extending to you a cordial invitation to attend Bahá’í Week in Marshalltown, May 10th through 18th.

Proclaimed by the Mayor, the purpose of the week is to better acquaint Marshalltown residents with the Bahá’í Community.

About the Lecturer

MRS. ROBERT LEE MOFFETT

World traveler, Educator, Author, and Commentator, she has studied Social Economics, History, Science, Comparative Religion, Music, Art, and Philosophy at Oberlin, University of Chicago, Northwestern and Geneva, Switzerland. Served for many years in the Federated Womens Club, League of Women Voters, and in various U.N. activities.

Following the first hour each evening a class will be conducted on “AMAZING NEW KEYS TO THE BOOK OF REVELATION”

[Daily lecture or class topics were] “BIRTH OF A NEW SOCIETY,” “CAUSE OF THE RISE AND FALL OF CIVILIZATIONS,” “TURNING POINT IN HISTORY FORETOLD IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION,” “A NEW OUTLOOK ON WORLD AFFAIRS,” SCIENCE BUILDS A NEW WORLD,” “BIBLE PROPHECY FULFILLED IN THIS DAY,” “ALL THINGS MADE NEW,” “COSMIC POWER OF PRAYER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT,” “YOUTH VIEWS THE NEW MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE,” “BIRTH OF A NEW SPIRIT IN YOUTH,” and “GOD SPEAKS AGAIN AND ITS MEANING TO ME.”

*An independent world religion

*Not syncretic but a new revelation from God

*In 311 countries and territories

*In 2400 U.S. communities

HAS:

*Its Founder – Bahá’u’lláh

*Its own scripture and laws

*Its World Center in the Holy Land

*It’s National Center in Wilmette, Illinois

ORIGINATED:

*In Persia in 1844

BELIEVES:

*All religions have the same Divine Source

*God reveals His Word periodically in history through a chosen Prophet or Messenger

*Religious truth is continuous and relative, not final and absolute

*Bahá’u’lláh is the Messenger for this Age in fulfillment of God’s promises, including those in the Old and New Testaments

TEACHES:

*Each person must seek truth for himself

*The oneness of God, of religion and of mankind

*All prejudices must be abandoned

*The harmony of science and religion

OFFERS:

*A renewal of God’s eternal Covenant with man

*Spiritual, yet practical solutions for the world’s ills

*A blueprint for world peace and world unity

*Each individual moral, ethical and spiritual principles for today
